CyberGhost VPN deserves a purchase decision based on its current device allowance, platform-specific controls and subscription conditions. Its Windows automation rules, Android app exclusions and optional security products address different jobs. Treating them as one universal “protection” switch would hide the distinctions that matter when you set up a household’s devices.
This source-based review examines those documented functions and the questions to settle before subscribing. VPNBlade has not installed CyberGhost, measured speed, tested blocked sites or simulated connection failures for this review. The feature descriptions come from the provider; the buying worksheets and fit assessment are editorial analysis.
Who may find the documented controls useful?
CyberGhost may fit someone whose supported device has the specific automation or routing function they want, whose concurrent use fits the allowance, and who understands the seller’s renewal terms. It is less useful to choose it solely because an old article praised an unlimited list of capabilities without identifying the app or subscription involved.
Begin with one practical requirement. Perhaps you want a documented connection action after joining Wi-Fi, or you need a particular Android application to bypass the tunnel. Write that requirement down before comparing prices. Our VPN buying checklist helps keep the supported function separate from a promotional headline.
Seven simultaneous devices is not seven installations
CyberGhost’s current device guide permits seven VPN connections at the same time and allows installation on more devices. If all slots are in use, its instructions say to disconnect an active device before connecting another. For app-store purchases, the guide also explains linking the purchase email so the allowance can be used across supported platforms.
Count concurrent activity rather than the number of phones and computers in a drawer. A device left connected in the background can matter even while nobody is looking at it. If seven does not meet your normal peak, resolve that before paying; do not assume that installing the app again creates another allowance.
| Control | Documented purpose | Do not confuse it with |
|---|---|---|
| Windows launch rules | Start a connection on launch or start an app after connecting | Proof that every application always uses the tunnel |
| Windows App Rules | Trigger a VPN connection when a listed app launches | Excluding that app from the VPN route |
| Windows website Exceptions | Specify website exceptions to the tunnel | The Android per-app exclusion interface |
| Android App Split Tunnel | Select apps that bypass the VPN | A feature matrix for every other operating system |

Compare included service & terms →Windows Smart Rules are automation, with distinct actions
The current Windows Smart Rules instructions distinguish connecting when CyberGhost launches, launching another app after connection, Wi-Fi-dependent actions, website Exceptions and App Rules. App Rules starts a VPN connection when a listed app launches. That is a connection trigger, not an arbitrary app-bypass feature.
Before enabling an automatic action, think through an ordinary day. Which network change should cause the action, and what should happen afterward? Keep a record of the setting so a later surprise can be traced to a deliberate choice. Do not assume an application is excluded merely because it appears in a rule list.
On a managed work computer, follow the organization’s policy before altering network behavior. A personal subscription does not authorize changing an approved access arrangement. If the intended task is reaching a company resource, ask the relevant support team which connection and configuration it requires.
Android exclusions need their own review
CyberGhost’s Android instructions describe selecting applications that bypass the VPN tunnel, and say to disconnect before changing the selection. The documentation identifies the checked apps as the ones to bypass. That direction matters: selecting an app should not be interpreted as adding more protection to it.
Keep exclusions limited to a specific need and record why each exists. If a service behaves differently with the VPN, investigate its supported configuration rather than excluding a broad set of unrelated apps. Our split-tunneling explanation covers the trade-off without claiming that every exclusion is appropriate.
Check the current app and OS instructions when a setting is absent. Do not transplant an Android menu into an iPhone or Mac guide. A subscription supporting several device families does not establish identical routing controls on each one.
The VPN and optional security products have different scopes
CyberGhost’s plans documentation lists its Content Blocker as DNS-level filtering and identifies Dedicated IP and the Windows-only Security Suite as paid add-ons. A VPN subscription therefore should not be treated as proof that an antivirus component is included, installed or active on every device.
List which task you need a component to perform. Filtering a destination, scanning a file and choosing a network route are different jobs. If you already have appropriate device protection, compare any additional security product with that existing coverage before paying twice. Our VPN and antivirus guide explains the boundary.
Likewise, a dedicated address is a separate purchase question. Do not add it simply because it sounds more private. Define the application requirement and confirm that the product supports that requirement; this review does not establish a general need for the add-on.
Read the no-logs commitment alongside account data
CyberGhost’s published privacy policy says it does not record the described traffic activity or connection logs. The same policy discusses account and transaction administration, website information, aggregated service events and diagnostics that a user may send to support. Its displayed revision date is 18 March 2024. These published statements do not mean the service has no account or support information.
We have not independently verified the implementation or reviewed an audit report for this article. Read the current policy and consent choices rather than interpreting “no logs” as complete anonymity. Logging into an account, submitting information to a website or sending a support ticket still creates a separate disclosure.
Keep support requests focused on the problem and avoid posting credentials, payment details or unnecessary personal information publicly. A useful report identifies the app version, device and exact symptom without turning a troubleshooting conversation into an account-data dump.
Pros and cons for a documented use case
Reasons to consider it
- A clearly documented seven-connection allowance makes concurrent household use easier to plan.
- Windows Smart Rules offer specific actions for launch and Wi-Fi events.
- The Android documentation identifies a per-app bypass workflow.
- The subscription documentation separates core VPN functions from paid security and address add-ons.
Reasons to pause or compare alternatives
- Windows App Rules is not the same control as Android app exclusion.
- Seven concurrent connections may be insufficient for your normal use.
- A filtering feature does not establish comprehensive malware protection.
- Introductory billing and app-store refund exclusions need attention before purchase.
These points assess suitability, not measured quality. Keep the separate provider comparison directory for head-to-head decisions; this review does not replace any dedicated CyberGhost-versus-another-provider article.
Understand the introductory period and refund route
CyberGhost’s plans guide says longer introductory offers renew annually at the standard rate after the initial period, with the exact renewal shown at checkout. Compare the initial total and subsequent charge separately. A low monthly equivalent does not describe the amount you pay at once.
Its refund policy gives eligible one-month subscriptions a 14-day window and subscriptions of six months or longer a 45-day window. Apple, Google and Amazon in-app purchases fall under their respective store decisions. Third-party sellers and physical gift cards have their own routes. Disabling renewal does not initiate a refund request.
| Record before paying | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Your peak connection count | Whether seven simultaneous connections covers the real requirement |
| Device and desired action | The exact platform documentation for routing or automation |
| Core plan and extras | Whether the needed component is included or separately billed |
| Seller, total and renewal | Who bills you, the next charge and the applicable refund request process |
The CyberGhost store contains inherited commercial offers. Confirm the exact current plan and conditions at the seller’s checkout; the button is not evidence of tested performance.
A sensible setup review after purchase
Use the official instructions for your device, identify the active subscription and inspect only the controls relevant to your requirement. Save a note of any rule or exclusion you add. If something fails, change one relevant setting at a time so you retain enough information to describe the problem.
Use our connection-check guide for specific observations, and cancellation checklist when reviewing renewal. Neither a successful connection nor a cancellation confirmation establishes every other result. Keep the claim, the setting and the evidence attached to the same task.
